In 1939, Rav Elchonon Kleinman, Elly Kleinman's uncle and renowned rosh yeshivah of Baranowitz, returned to Europe after a two-year sojourn in the United States. He was begged to remain in America, but refused, saying that his place was with his talmidim.
Before he boarded the ship, he turned to the young leader of the American Ze’irei Agudas Yisroel, Reb Elemelech Gavriel “Mike” Tress, z”l, and said, “Know that the future of Torah in America is in your hands.”
