Paying no attention
to where I am going

I read & re-read
your letter

words blurring
into stop after stop

until I look up
realize I am

many miles past
where I should get off.

Now
I don’t know

where I am
at all.

I leave your letter
on the bus

sitting upstairs
all on its own

journeying blindly on
as I try to make my way back to

somewhere...anywhere
anything familiar

I can recognize
as me

…the last stop before a broken heart.
