DOPEMAN the ORIGIN

This is a HOMEGROWN project developed out of an idea created with my bandmates
Donnie MacNeil and Rob George. Over the past few years at our weekly jams we would
have a few beers and a smoke in between playing and joke around about a character
named DOPEMAN. It was all just for fun but when Covid hit and no one was hiring me
anyway. I decided to sketch out some characters based on what we were having laughs
about. Taking the ideas we had thrown around DOPEMAN came to fruition. While
designing characters and a simple set of backgrounds in Photoshop, I began writing a
script. WE, the band ; took the script and at our jams started creating musical stings for
some of the beats, small song segments and sound effects. I took all this stuff and
started to storyboard on my Wacom Cintiq, a digital tablet using ToonBoom Storyboard
Pro. This program has basic editing capabilities for creating Animatics generally used in
animation. As I went along it grew bigger than originally planed.
I have worked in the Animation industry since the 90’s mainly as a Storyboard Artist …
so …. I AM NOT AN ANIMATOR. Look at this as an embellished Animatic.
The concept:
Marijuanas is a dominant theme throughout the concept, and plays a big part. But The
story is focused on Walter Patinski a middle aged man who still lives with his mother in
the basement of her trailer high upon a hill overlooking FUGGY’S COVE. The
characters that live in the seaside village of FUGGY’S COVE also have stories.
