The Dead by Daylight x Five Nights at Freddy's collab contributes to the lore first and foremost by recounting for us in plain English, a story of events that we've only ever experienced visually through the FNAF 3 "Follow Me" minigames - The night that William Afton died, and Springtrap was born. Although we encounter and survive him up close in the main gameplay of FNAF 3, our interactions with Springtrap only last for a fraction of his considerably lengthy existence. That significant period of time between William Afton's initial springlocking at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and his eventual debut to the world at the Fazbear's Fright horror attraction is largely overlooked and taken for granted. Considering the fact that Springtrap remains quite an agile threat despite the mutilation and deterioration both his corpse and costume endured, it stands to reason that if William laid alone and forgotten on the decrepit floor of the saferoom instead of simply leaving Freddy's behind, it's because something... or someone... was keeping him there.
