Tap the weather should be fine
A picnic lunch sounds good
Our trusty old barometer
Shows signs we really should

A basket full of goodies
Fresh salmon that looks grand
With porkpies from the oven
Good portions must be planned

A final bowl of salad
Beside the crispy pears
Checked gingham cloth to put it on
We won’t be needing chairs

At last the hamper fastened
Another tap no change
Our trusty old barometer
No movement that seemed strange

No matter that won’t stop us
All packed and off we go
We settled by the river-bank
Where it began to snow

The pork pie crusts went soggy
Our salmon slipped away
When we get home it’s in the bin
For leading us astray
