David Thomas - Cold

Oh how these days they torment me,
my constant thought dwelling elsewhere
my eyes overted, yet nothing great be there,
i've felt this sadness only run so deep
until today, when i felt inside my keep
things are not as i thought they would be,
and yet none the less exactly they are
i knew it'd hurt just like this,
sting my feeling heart doth sense
worse than any bee could ever do
nor wasp nor hornet nor sharp object,
nothing punctures deeper this blood
than that of a naive mind and a broken fist...
wanting doing knowing thinking
all so very different
all so very close
i knew i'd hurt
i thought you'd be okay
i didn't know what i was doing
wanting now i know more than,
i was right. life hasn't just begun
it's been going year and year
after year after year
time to stop the motions
time to make my own wave
watch as this ocean feels my feel
i'll shape the world just you see
for all the things i knew right of
you surpass me dear,
you knew what i could not,
being blinded by temptations left right between...
no excuses i walked out
did not plan to make such a grave mistake
but in the end for the heart's contender it is safer
says the monster to the seagul.
