David Taylor - Christmas 'Scene'
2 Views • Nov 07, 2014
Description
carrying the last leaves of autumn gold
into piles and drifts of yellow and muddied brown.
Cars speed by the crinkled branches
laid bare by winter cold and ice with squirrels
finding refuge in boughs carved with age
into homes of wood, like caves.
I travel on to find my abode
a haven of rest sheltered from the wind and cold
with windows on the winter world
that outside continues to swim and swirl
with busy bustling shoppers weighed down with bags
and mothers with laden prams
and scarves that twizzle out behind.
Children excited call out
as a red bus comes round about
and as darkness descends the Christmas lights
twinkle in the dark sky night
adorning trees and windows bright with
strange figurines of sleighs with reindeer,
sack bearing portly men in red
and a snowman, with hat on head.
Inside I dream a dream
of pure white snow
in still, unmoving air
falling gently with no sound
and stars that in night sky
dance and twinkle in my eyes.
A moon so bright it
lights up passing clouds
and casts their shadows
on the ground
and in a mysterious wonderland
of silence and unbounded peace
You come to me
and all my Christmas wishes are fulfilled
in that magic moment
when time stands still
and I have no place to lay my head
I remember, a simple manger for Your bed.
