Description
Around these parts I'm known as a grafter,
'cause I guess I'm just not smart enough to cheat.
I know I'm a restless guy,
but to stay put is to die.
And a weaving target's harder to defeat.
Out on the highway. Back on the road.
By every byway, where I'm well-knowed.
Out on the highway. Keep moving on.
I'm ducking and diving. All night long.
Out on the highway. Back on the road.
Down every freeway. I go with the flow.
Out on the highway. Just rambling on.
Driving. Arriving. Then I'm done.
Around these parts I'm known as a drifter,
'cause I never lets the grass grow 'neath my feet.
I'm a wandering kind of man,
just doing the best I can.
But time is short and I've promises to keep.
Out on the highway. Back on the road.
Not in a shy way, but sharing the load.
Out on the highway. I'll shadow the sun.
And the promised horizons,
of a new life begun.
Around this town I'm known as an actor.
And there's many parts and roles that I must play.
But I'm no dissembling man,
of ambition or cunning plan.
I just love life a little more each day.
Out on the highway. Back on the road.
Avoiding the tollway, encircling the world.
Out on the highway, the soul can breathe free.
And follow the rainbow. To destiny.
Out on the highway. Back on the road.
Doing things my way; to live by my code.
Out on the highway. Just travelling on.
Reviving. Surviving. Then I'm gone.
