Leagues away, I tried my best,
but you laid my heartened hopes to rest.
Pain and tears were all I got,
but I know I gave it my best shot.

Bonds of ice, and concrete dreams,
the ice soon melted to running streams.
My heart, my soul, you took the lot,
but still I gave it my best shot.

Your warm embrace was all it took,
a meaningful kiss, or lingering look.
You say it’s wrong, I know it’s not.
So I keep on giving it my best shot.

Once the rock, now just air,
Your smell in my bed, no longer there.
Words in my throat beginning to clot,
You took your aim, and shot your best shot.
