En 1997 Thierry Dambermont apprend que la Haute École de Namur Albert Jacquard envisage d’introduire un cours d’«infographie/nouvelles technologies de l’image» dans son régendat en Arts Plastiques. Thierry Dambermont étant lui-même régent en Arts Plastiques de formation, il adhère alors complètement à cette idée, regrettant que l’infographie n’ait pas été déjà présente dans la grille des cours du régendat en Arts Plastiques au moment où il y était étudiant 10 années plus tôt en 1988 (l’infographie est une technique de production d’images qui est accessible au grand public depuis le début des années 80). Étant par ailleurs diplômé d’une école française d’infographie de communication, SupInfoCom à Valenciennes, et professionnel de l’infographie depuis 1993, Thierry Dambermont postule pour cet emploi. C’est sur base de son dossier professionnel qu'il est retenu pour l’emploi.
