Copper apron sinks has its roots in farmhouses, yes where it gets its name, where it was popular from about the 1800s – 1900s. Apron sinks have been commonly created as a deep sink. Pots, pans an other containers used for cooking were generally larger than today’s standards especially in a farmhouse, where food was prepared for large numbers of people. So deeper sinks were ideal because it allowed the food containers, pots and pans to be filled with water and soaked, to remove stubborn food particles and stains. Average sink depth today is considered anywhere from between 7-9 inches, with 8 inches being the most comfortable. Now aprons sinks are manufactured 8” deep, which is more comfortable and easier on the back and which accommodates the needs of modern use.
