A contactor holding circuit is a simple control setup that keeps a motor or any connected load running after you press the start button, until you deliberately stop it. The start push button only energizes the contactor for a moment. Once the contactor pulls in, its auxiliary NO contact closes and feeds power back to the coil. This creates a “holding” or “latching” path that keeps the contactor energized on its own.

The advantage is that the operator doesn’t need to keep the start button pressed. The circuit maintains the contactor automatically. When you want to stop the load, you press the stop push button, which cuts power to the coil and releases the contactor.

Holding circuits are widely used in motor starters, industrial machinery, lighting panels, and automation systems. They provide safer, smoother, and more reliable control in everyday electrical operations.
