Description

Coal Tit (parus ater) Cole Tit 11 cm; 9 g

The Coal Tit occurs regularly in deciduous woodland, but it is with conifers that most birdwatchers associate it. The Coal Tit is the smallest of the tit family, it often looks dumpy and short tailed.
Like other tits has a varied range of notes, many resembling more or less closely those of other tits and only distinguishable by experience; characteristic notes include 'tsuu', 'tsui', 'ticha, ticha', and a thin 'tsee', easily confused with the Goldcrest. Song is a miniature of Great Tit's saw sharping note.
