Clean & Press: 10 Sets!

Description

As is often the case, when l'm done doing Hip Lifts, l don't feel like unloading 1,000lb+. So, after my Clean & Jerks, l moved on to doing doubles on Presses w/141½lb. I decided to unload a pair of plates from the Hip Lift and put them away after each set. Since l had 10 pairs to put away, l shot for 10 sets of doubles. Believe it or not, the last couple of sets seemed easier than the rest?! This was reminiscent of how the best U.S. Weightlifters of the 1940s & 1950s trained. You would see 2x8 or 3x8 on the three competition lifts. You would most likely see 5x5 on Squats, Shoulder Squats later known as Front Squats and Bench Presses.
Remember, this was when the U.S. lifters were not only winning gold individually, but the team trophy as well. If you do adopt some of that training, INCLUDE the Clean & Press because it WILL help the other two lifts. Good examples are Kono, Davis & Schemansky. Canada's Doug Hepburn is also a good choice. God Bless!
