Christopher Ridgeway - After the Storm

When left alone, I found myself floating in a sea of whiskey
All too often, I have taken out onto this sea
Unaware of the affect it had on my surrounding environment
Knowing where my limit is, yet blowing past it in an effort to forget
Forgetting is only temporary, and it will soon come back to haunt me again
When on the waters of trouble, the good Capitan 'Walker' only proves to make getting back to shore safely more difficult
To pilot the ship is a daunting task indeed
Keeping away from the jagged rocks of self-loathing, which only serve to pull me deeper into the tides
This ocean only deepens as time wears on
Relationships are strained to the point that the ropes are taught and prepared to burst back into the million individual threads they began life as
Now it seems the only way to retain my safety and sanity is to never see the sea again
Now standing 60 days without that perfect storm is sobering
Something not done in 10 times as many days
I see clearly what was left behind and the future ahead
Nor do I cry for leaving it behind, only smile because it was
