Description
Footage of four separate incidents on Sydney train platforms where children fell on to the tracks between train and platform was released by the NSW government on Tuesday, April 11, as part of a warning message to parents and carers.
Sydney Trains released footage showing a child falling at Cronulla Station</a> before his grandfather pulls him to safety, as well as other clips taken from CCTV cameras at Epping, North Sydney and Wynyard in which commuters and Sydney Trains staff rush to help after children trip through the gap. Each child appears distressed after their rescue.
In a statement, Sydney Trains chief executive Howard Collins urged vigilance.
“Keep an eye on your children, hold their hand, take your time, don’t rush, and mind the gap between the platform and the train,” Collins said. “If you’re using a pram, keep a firm hold and always apply the brakes at the station and on the train.”
According to The Daily Telegraph,</a> hundreds of children fell through platform gaps in 2016, and 81 were injured.
