Description
Charles Burchfield, pintor estadounidense, estudió en la Cleveland School of Art desde 1912. En 1916 recibió una beca para estudiar en la National Academy of Design de Nueva York, pero la abandonó tras un solo día de asistencia y regresó a Salem (Ohio), la ciudad en la que había crecido. Ya en sus comienzos mostró predilección por la acuarela en unas obras en las que dejaba fluir su fantasía con total libertad. El color arbitrario se unía a temas relacionados con su infancia o con su admiración por la naturaleza. Desde este momento, Burchfield desarrolló un estilo personal, independiente de las innovaciones del arte europeo.
Por este sentido panteísta se le considera sucesor y último representante de la escuela de paisajistas americanos del siglo XIX.
