trudged into the Teacher’s Center
so I immediately closed my eyes
and started to snore
unable any longer to listen to the man’s
sad tales.
As usual he moaned,
“I’m a loser...”
And as usual Abner Garland replied
with his now familiar
Old Testament fervor, “FOR ONCE IN YOUR DEBASED
AND PERVERTED LIFE
STAND UP
STAND UP AND BE A MAN.”
Not deterred in the slightest
Leo Peabody continued,
“I did it again last night
even though I said,
No more.
Went to Delancy Street
and there was this girl
in a tan mini skirt
‘Fifty, ’
she said and we walked into this room
and the girl said, ’You get undressed first.’
So I stripped
and after I took off my clothes
she flopped on the bed
but still had her clothes on
then all of a sudden
she lifted up her skirt
showing the cutest white panties
with red hearts all over them
finally she moved a little of the material
to one side
so there was just enough
room for me to enter. ‘That’s all
I’m getting for fifty? ’
‘Everything’s extra
except the hole, ’ she said.’”
I couldn’t listen to this babbling
a second longer
because I’d already heard his morose
autobiography a hundred times.
“Why don’t you write
this stuff down? ” I asked.
“I’m blocked
but for you it’s different
cause you just write about anything—
taking a crap
blowing your nose
your ass doctor
doesn’t matter
but it’s all bullshit.”
“Helps pass the time, ” I replied,
as honestly as possible.
Without warning Abner Garland yelled,
“NEVER FREQUENT SUCH A PLACE AGAIN! ”
“I’m only human, ” sighed Leo.
“THE ALMIGHTY SHALL STRIKE YOU DEAD
YOU WHOREMONGER.”
Flawless words quickly cascaded
into a frezied brain
as my spirit soared
the poem already finished
before pen hit paper.
