Standing behind glass doors
She whispers to me

I smile gently
Placing my hand against the glass
With a gentle sigh
She turns
With a backward glance
The door closes with the thunder

Of cannon fire

I think of the what if's
Might of's
A thousand other maybe's in another
Time and place

I kick the stones in the driveway
Look out to the horizon
Yet…see little
Lost in thought
And soft smiles
