Cardiologist testifies Murray was grossly negligent

An expert cardiologist for the California Medical Board testified on Wednesday (October 12) that Dr. Conrad Murray deviated from standard practices in his care of Michael Jackson by administering the singer the anesthetic propofol.
Dr. Alon Steinberg reviewed the police interview with Murray that took place days after Jackson's death, and made a judgment of the standards of care based on Murray's own words. Steinberg determined, in his opinion, that there were six separate and distinct deviations of standard of care, each one amounting to gross negligence.
SOUNDBITE: Dr. Alon Steinberg, cardiologist, saying (English):
"All those deviations -- giving propofol, giving propofol in an unmonitored setting without personnel, without appropriate monitoring, without appropriate equipment, not being prepared, not doing, appropriately reacting to arrest, not calling 911 on a timely fashion, all directly impacted his life, because if these deviations had not happened, Mr. Jackson could have been alive."
Steinberg also said that Murray should not have given Jackson chest compressions because his heart was still beating, and that Murray did not adequately chart Jackson's vitals.
Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
