Business = a Hypothesis
Description
One of the major problems in starting a business is that we attach too much emotion to it. We're afraid of the business failing— and that ultimately stifles our creativity.
So it's important to treat your business like a 'hypothesis'. Meaning that it's just a general prediction on what the market will enjoy. Then that prediction gets tested through putting it out into the world.
This keeps the idea from becoming too precious. There are two major hazards that kill like 90% of ideas. The first is when you hold your idea back until the environment is safe enough. So you,
• Want to perfect the designs
• Find the right business partner
• Learn more about the industry
Second, people will push their idea out— but they're still protective over it. So they,
• Only show their idea to people who 'get it'
• They're afraid of rejection, so they don't push the idea enough
• Worried about other people influencing their idea
But through treating your business like a hypothesis, it removes a lot of the attachment to the outcome. Which allows you to address problems logically rather than reactively.
In the end, this helps you get out of your own way. As an entrepreneur— you're often worried about the competition, market conditions, or funding. But in reality, your biggest hurdle you will actually be overcoming your own idiosyncrasies and limiting self-beliefs.
