On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 took off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Just minutes later, the Airbus A320 struck a flock of birds—both engines failed.

What followed became known as the "Miracle on the Hudson": Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles managed to guide the powerless aircraft to a controlled ditching on the Hudson River—surrounded by skyscrapers, bridges, and freezing water. Every one of the 155 people on board survived.
