Description
After a long period of ‘confinement’, students of Surkuti, Keetham got a chance to interact with the world. Under the banner of ‘Antardrishti’, an NGO working for the empowerment of visually impaired, the special children staged a play ‘Bechara nahi samajhna’ at Youth hostel here on Saturday, which has raised a question over the attitude of the society and the government towards the visually impaired people. As the title of the play suggests, it was an effort to prove that the handicapped people are capable of doing wonders like any other normal person. It also tried to bring into notice the discrimination and neglect they are usually subjected to. During the programme, a collective call was made to the government to introduce welfare schemes for the special children.
The need to provide computer education to the visually challenged was also highlighted through the play so that they can rub shoulders with their counterparts in different fields. The programme was the joint effort of Antardrishti and Rakesh Bhardwaj, a Delhi based theater artist that resulted in much-needed exposure to them. For this, around a week long workshop was organised at Sur Kuti under the guidance of Bhardwaj. Akhil Srivastav of Antardrishti covened the programme.
