Another little AU idea I had -
What if, when Mulder had the dream in Sixth Exinction of being married with children, it wasn't with Diana but Dana?
Would he have been able to leave/be saved? Would be WANT to?
What if it happened earlier in the series?
And what if it ended up being more of a premonition than just a dream to keep him sedated?
What if, he kept having that dream, after the event and couldn't put it out of his mind, but knew that would end in tragedy for them both?
So when Scully asked him if he ever wanted to settle down, or help her have a baby, he was torn between helping the woman he loves and trying to avoid tragedy in the future , but ultimately helped Scully as he thinks he can't change the future.
