Base Volition (1995)

Short film final shot at the New York Film Academy in New York City. The challenge was to keep it under 15 minutes with NO dialogue but I kinda cheated at the end. After the term, the entire school's films were screened at the Tribeca Theater. I didn't know how to attach a "lead" to my film to connect it to the other film projects on the projector, so they had to show mine first as I'd come unprepared. That was an un-intended honor.

We didn't know how to make credits, so we printed up titles on white paper and shot that head on.

The whole thing was shot in 2 days in Asbury Park, NJ and all interiors were done at my parents' and a friend's house.

On the second day of shooting, Frank (the star)can be seen noticeably limping because we accidentally sliced his leg open the night before while trying to break into Convention Hall for no good reason. We spent a lot of time in the hospital getting him stitches before shooting a few hours later. Kids...

The music of Frank staggering away is from "On The Waterfront."

This was my third attempt at moviemaking so yeah, it's not very good but whatever. It starred my best friends from my hometown - and my college roommate Frank, who would also become one of my greatest friends. Alpha Phi Alpha brother and war veteran - this is dedicated to him, God rest his soul.
