Babba Maal at The Tabernacle

Baaba Maal is a Senegalese musician and guitarist born in Podor, on the Senegal River. In addition to acoustic guitar, he also plays percussion and has released several albums, both for independent and major labels. In July 2003, he became a UNDP Youth Emissary. As the son of a fisherman, Baaba Maal was expected to follow his path, however, under the influence of his life-long friend Mansour Seck, Baaba Maal devoted himself to learning music learnt from his mother and his headmaster at school. He went on to study music at the university in Dakar before leaving for postgraduate studies on a scholarship at Beaux-Arts in Paris. Baaba Maal has come a long way but remains true to his roots. He fans love his music and respect everything that he stands for. Not only is he credited for being an amazing musician, but also for standing up for women's rights, often referred to in his lyrics. This is a musician worth seeing so try and catch him in concert.
