Description
A client contacted BEPeterson with a requirement to fully automate a 2500 psi ASME pressure vessel. The client required the closure to open and close quickly. The BEPeterson engineering staff took on the challenge of designing an ASME pressure vessel with a quick opening closure capable of being fully automated.
The engineers at BEPeterson decided to utilize carbon steel for the custom metal fabrication. Carbon steel provides benefits of malleability, ductility, and easy forming. It was also more cost-effective than stainless steel. The ASME vessel was fabricated in adherence to ASME SA-105. This standard permits using carbon steel for manufacturing pressure vessel components.
The manually operated closure was designed with two safety features. The first was a screw type lock, which was attached to a chain and bolt welded on the vessel body. The second was a two stage lever. When opening the closure, the lever would be pulled in an anti-clockwise direction in three strokes. When closing the vessel, the lever would be retracted back to its original position. These functions were later automated by our client.
The ASME pressure vessel was fabricated with a 12ʺ ID, and a depth of 12ʺ. It was designed to an operating pressure of 2,500 PSI.
BEPeterson has supplied multiple ASME pressure vessels with quick opening closures. This design significantly improves operational throughput as the user has no bolts and nuts to remove every time the vessel cover is opened and closed.
