Ali Karim

Ali Karim (Persian: علی کریم, born 10 October 1977) is an Iranian film director and screenwriter.

Film description: An old man sits with his water pipe, pot of tea and radio in front of his dilapidated house by an infrequently used road and as a mechanic waits for a customer to appear. In order to bring in some money he digs a hole in the road, thinking that when passing cars get stuck in it they will be grateful that there is a mechanic on hand. In short episodes the old man meets various people – politicians, musicians, a family on the run and television reporters. The film has been made with uncommon simplicity and its natural structure is helped by the diverse characters who appear in the film. The precisely composed static shots aptly illustrate and support the sharp collision of the old and new ways of life and their dramatic consequences.
