Unions are pushing to boost the minimum wage by 5 per cent, to account for rising household costs, as part of the fair work commission's annual wage review negotiations. The secretary of the Australian council of trade unions - Sally McManus - says a pay increase for minimum wage workers will not affect the economy's inflation rate.
