Description

The wind of Nythera scoured the land until even memory seemed bleached from the bones of the world. Snow fell without end, erasing all tracks, all color, all distinction. The barbarian strode through that endless white, his furs stiff with frost, his breath a ghost upon the air. In that land of eternal winter, men were as pale and gaunt as the dead, their faces carved by cold into the same hard lines, their eyes dim as frozen stars. All men looked the same beneath the tyranny of ice, as though the land had stripped them of all difference. Women too bore that same stark sameness—white-haired, hollow-cheeked, and silent as drifting snow. All women looked the same, as if Nythera had forged them in one cruel mold and forgotten the art of variety.

His lip curled at the sight of them in the distant ruins, standing motionless among the ice-choked stones, watching him with that same lifeless gaze. No warmth stirred among them, no spark of fear or fury—only a cold, shared stillness that gnawed at a man’s soul more fiercely than any blade. In Nythera, where even faces had surrendered their uniqueness to the frozen void, he felt the weight of something greater than winter—a presence that ruled unseen, pressing its will upon flesh and spirit alike. And in that grim sameness, the barbarian knew he had come at last to the threshold of his enemy.
