Govt. Jubilee High School, Sunamganj is one of the oldest Schools in greater Sylhet region. It was established in 1887 by the British Government of India marking the occasion of the Golden Jubilee that was celebrated on 20 and 21 June 1887, the 50 years milestone of the reign of Queen Victoria, the longest-reigning British monarch. Subsequently, the school was nationalised in 1928.

The school was set up in a picturesque part of the town, on the bank of the river Surma by the magnificent backdrop of the distant ranges of the Meghalaya. The campus is quite big, stretching over 6.6 acres of land decked with pond, stunningly green tall trees and playground covered with soft grass.

The history of Sunamganj reveals that many notable alumni of the school played a significant role in the movement for national emancipation of the Bangalees including anti-British Movement, the Bengali Language Movement as well as the 1971 War of Liberation.

The school, since its inception, has been playing a significant role to eradicate illiteracy and produce new areas of knowledge and disseminate this knowledge to the society through its students. It has a rich amount of alumni, who have enriched the global pool of knowledge by making notable contributions in different fields in order to build up the nation.

As of 2012, the school has 48 teachers and a student body of 1292 from level 3 to 10.
