This film is adapted from the novel "Journey to the West" by Ming Dynasty novelist Wu Chengen

It is set five hundred years after Sun Wukong's "havoc in heaven", and revolves around the young monk Jiang Liuer and Sun Wukong and others: Jiang Liuer accidentally removes the seal and rescues Sun Wukong who is trapped under the Five Elements Mountain. At this time, Sun Wukong just wants to live a peaceful life, and only intends to escort Jiang Liuer back to the city because of the seal.
