Young & Griselle - Cubist

Although largely forgotten today, Thomas Griselle (1891-1955), was a highly talented composer. Since he was a pupil in Europe of Arnold Schoenberg and Nadia Boulanger, and the occasional accompanist of banjo player Harry Reser , Griselle was somewhat unconventional. The work "Cubist" presented here is reminiscent of novelty style; nonetheless he mainly showed interest in symphonic jazz. Nathaniel Shilkret recorded two of his American Sketches in 1928. As an eclectic musician, he also regularly accompanied violinist Fritz Kreisler and worked as an arranger for Artie Shaw. This outstanding disc, featuring a piano duet by composer Griselle and Victor Young, was made in 1923. I am sure you will enjoy the exceptional sound quality on this acoustical recording.
