Description

Young Chikus on a tree in Kesar Mahal Botanical Garden, Kathmandu.

Manilkara zapota, commonly known as the sapodilla,[2] is a long-lived, evergreen tree native to southern Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.[3] An example natural occurrence is in coastal Yucatán in the Petenes mangroves ecoregion, where it is a subdominant plant species.[4] It was introduced to the Philippines during Spanish colonization. It is grown in huge quantities in Thailand, India, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mexico and in southern coastal areas of Pakistan.
The name "zapota" ultimately derives from the Nahuatl word tzapotl ['t͡sapot͡ɬ] by way of the Spanish word zapote [sa'pote].

Located in the heart of the Kathmandu city, near the Royal Palace is the Garden of Dreams, also known as the Kesar Mahal Garden.
This lush green garden is a peaceful retreat from the chaos of the bustling city outside the gigantic walls of the garden.
