Paddle boarding events began with Tom Blake back in 1928 who raced a 120-pound board the 32 miles from Catalina to the mainland in just under 6 hours. In the early 1950s surfboard shapers Dale Velzy, Greg Knoll and Hobie Alter introduced a new era to the sport.
