Wycliffe (Faith) (1996)

S3, Ep 6: Faith. Wycliffe welcomes an old friend and his teenage daughter to stay for a while after the ending of his volatile marriage. But any happy reunion is put on hold when two girls discover the body of a baby in a cardboard box on the church steps. As Wycliffe and his team ponder how anyone could end the life of a baby, they are approached by an eyewitness who reports of a secret pagan sect in the community and of having seen them with a child on the night the baby died. It leads Wycliffe to consider some uncomfortable possibilities in a case that will test his resolve...

Starring Jack Shepherd, Helen Masters, Jimmy Yuill, Lynn Farleigh, Richard Durden, Tim Wylton, Gregory Chisholm, Malcolm Storry, Alexandra Milman, Phil Rowlands, Hugh Munro, John Gregor, Aaron Harris, Harri Alexander, Kate Reynolds, Guy Oliver-Watts, Mary Chater, Laurence Leason and Sophie Turner (no, not that one). This is a random episode of Wycliffe from Series 3, episode 6, and was originally broadcast on July 28th 1996. Like most Wycliffe mysteries it's a slow mover, but goes down some dark avenues in it's investigation into the death of a baby. I do not have any other Wycliffe episodes and this is chiefly because it features Alexandra Milman, who seems to have quite a number of fans who still remember her during her stardom in the 1990's.
