Wounded Syrians treated at makeshift hospital

Wounded Syrians take shelter at a makeshift hospital on the Turkish border.

The medical clinic has been treating people for injuries sustained in the Syrian conflict.

For 17-months rebels have been trying to bring down the government.

The intense fighting has left thousands fleeing across the border.

SOUNDBITE: WOUNDED SYRIAN SULEIMAN LEBEN SAYING (Arabic):

"A week ago I was were participating in a peaceful protest with some of my friends. While we were protesting, they began firing at us. Four of my friends died, and 15 people were wounded. I lost my arm and injured my legs."

One doctor at the clinic said the situation had been getting worse.

He did not want to be identified, for fear of retribution.

SOUNDBITE: VOLUNTEER DOCTOR FROM UNION OF MEDICAL RELIEF ORGANISATIONS, NAME AND IDENTITY WITHHELD, SAYING (Arabic):

"For the past few days, more heavily wounded people have started coming here, mostly from Homs due to the closure of the Lebanese borders. Because of this, the number of wounded people coming from Homs has dramatically increased."

The conflict has created a refugee crisis in Syria's neighbouring countries.

In Turkey, almost 60,000 people have crossed the border seeking refuge.
