World Series 2013: After obstruction Red Sox pull even

The World Series is now tied at two games apiece after the Red Sox won Game 4 off of Jonny Gomes three-run homer on Sunday night.

Game 4 wasn't quite a suspenseful as Game 3 where the Cardinals won 5-4 thanks to one of the rarer walk-off plays in World Series history.

With players on second and third and one out, Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay hit a grounder to diving Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia. The Red sox had brought the defense closer in to try and prevent the runner from third scoring the winning run.

Pedroia made a nice grab and then tossed hit home in plenty of time to catch a sliding Yadier Molina. Allen Craig then tried to advance from second to third on the throw to home, so catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia threw to third in an attempt to catch Craig, but he overthrew. Craig then tried to run towards home, but was tripped up by third baseman Will Middlebrooks.

After the ball sailed past Middlebrooks, while he was lying on his stomach, he raised both legs and tripped Craig, slowing him down before he could run towards home. Third base umpire Jim Joyce signaled obstruction right away.

Left fielder Daniel Nava ran the ball down and made a throw towards home, where Saltalamacchia tagged a sliding Craig in time, but plate umpire Dana DeMuth signaled safe and then pointed to third, making it obvious that obstruction had been called.

The Red Sox were able to pull the series even though on Sunday night after Gomes hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer off reliever Seth Maness in the sixth inning.

Game 5 will be played on Monday in St. Louis.
