Wojja Fink - Counterfeit Blues
On the clothes line
It had been hung up upside down
And the wind quickly exposed
It’s fake origin
The Chinese buttons
Turned to rust
Quicker than ice cream to slush
In an orange sunshine afternoon
Big hearted America
Was an undiscovered land
And the ashes of a poem
Blew from his palms
Across a desolate barren landscape.
He knew it was pointless hunting
The feline cougar in the alphabetical maze
She could change direction
With every comma or colon,
Make exits appear in green foliage
And could gather verbs
Like roses.
Even Saraswati did not go there
Unfinished sentences
Like dead tree stumps
Littered the unforgiving desert
Playing tricks and holding captive
Words looking for a meaning
Where none existed.
He returned home
In peices like an undone puzzle
His grandchildren put him back together
But he was never the same
The illusion had gone
He looked in a mirror
And only saw crowds
Looking back at him
Laughing,
His knowledge and understanding
Was as real as the fake
Versace
In blue.
