Winsy Tink - Capture

For you,
My precious,
If only I could capture the most bright and beautiful –

The stillness of the sky unfolding at dawn;
The flutter of a sparrow’s first flight;
The clinking of fresh ice against clear crystal
And the million tiny rainbows refracted inside infinitely;
The oceanic waves roaring their majestic symphony
To proclaim the most turbulent of midnight storms;
Then quiet – the same waters turned meek,
Lapping the shores in the most tranquil of peaceful morns;

The delicate step of the ballerina across the stage,
Carried by invisible wings, barely touching the floor;
Her gaze which speaks more than a thousand languages
Though in Silence she is most fluent.
She tells a tale – the audience listens –
The same tale told and retold, generation after generation,
For man, in his fleeting lifespan, is only beginning to unearth the pearls of wisdom,
Groping in the yesterday, today and tomorrow of History.

If I could capture as a practised photographer
The purest of our metaphorical existence in taste, texture, colour, form and beyond,
I would – but alas! my art is poor –
An ineloquent poem to capture by words instead
Is the best I can give
That I pray you would graciously accept:
This –
My pathetic attempt, no more –
My heart, my all, no less –
My humble gift
Sincerely
To you.
