Nachdem Anwalt Mike Flaherty die Betreuung seines Mandanten Leo Poplar übernimmt, trifft er auf dessen Neffen Kyle. Der Teenager ist von zu Hause ausgerissen und will nicht länger bei seiner drogenabhängigen Mutter leben. Mike entschließt sich, den problembeladenen Jungen vorübergehend bei sich aufzunehmen. Er schliesst ihn bald ins Herz. Vor allem als er feststellt, dass in dem Kerl ein Top-Ringer steckt und seine Mannschaft weit bringen kann. Als jedoch Kyles Mutter Cindy nach ihrer Abgewöhnungskur in der Stadt auftaucht, droht Streß und Ärger - für alle Beteiligten.
