Description
Germany, Germany, land of 'cultur'
Of art and music.
Great accomplishments to medicine, chemistry and heavy industry
In their ' golden ' years.
Put back on track by one man.
A survivor from the Ist war,
Seething with hate, looking for his scapegoat.
Only 60 years have passed from the destruction of Germany
And the deaths Of German Jews and Russian, Italian, Polish.
The list being endless, the terrror complete.
A horror that swept through Europa.
Leaving me to be born after, thank God.
But leaving 8 million dead in its wake.
I have been to Bergen-Belsen and Ravensbruck
And never forgotten.
Dachau and Theresienstadt, I could not bring myself to see.
Together with all the foul names burned into History.
Children ripped from their mothers, Grandpa and Grandma and others Infirm, gassed and cremated,
As if they never have existed, but for the meticulous records kept by
The murderers themselves.
Now glassed in and on show are the cases with the owners names.
Painted on in the hope of recovery.
Eyeglasses, hair, clothing, shoes and boots
Making me think when they were last worn and by who.
A thought passing, they need polish!
I take one last look,
And step outside to sunlight.
