Description

The cliffs are crested with the mist of sleep
and silent sail the ships that throng my dreams,
on such a night as this methinks it seems
our poet Murray gazes o'er the deep
and by our side with ever-willing aid
tells us the story of his hopes and fears,
the moments of sheer joy, the wasted years
the morn of bitter rue, the winsome maid.

And we are torn by fevered restless thought
that cries to be writ down in words of gold
as lisping numbers struggle to be wrought
that man may know a rare old story told
- awed at our phantasy we climb the brae
and silent stride upon the homeward way.
