William Jackson - Spontaneous Combustion

While the three elements
of any significant fire,
oxygen, heat, and fuel,
create flashovers cruel,
the complete explosion
of everything in the room
at 1500 degrees and at a rate
of 37 feet per second,
my soul bursts into flames
at a slower temperature
than even the famous 451 degrees
at which paper begins to burn.

And yet this slow moving burn seems to me
just as infinitely hot and all consuming
of my over acute senses as any flashover,
and the mere presence of a confident woman
such as yourself causes my temperature
to slowly rise into the danger zone.

You of passionate heart, exquisite mind, and lithe body
have me all aflame, and nothing is ever going to put me out.
And when the investigators come, as they surely will,
to determine the cause and origin of the questionable fire,
there will be no explanation other than spontaneous combustion!
