Will MEA act against Devyani?

An Indian consular official charged in the United States with visa fraud and making false statements over the amount she paid a female domestic worker used a television interview on Monday to deny the charges against her and accuse the woman of attempting to blackmail her.

Devyani Khobragade, whose arrest in New York in December caused a diplomatic row between India and the U.S. late last year, told the Times Now television channel that her maid, Sangeeta Richard, had threatened her.

“She started blackmailing me” in a bid to gain U.S. permanent residence, Ms. Khobragade said.

Neither Ms. Richards nor her attorneys in the U.S. could be reached immediately for comment.
