'Alice, Alice, you must remember, '
I said to her when the evening began to leave,
'What have you done to your apron child?
And where will all these travels lead? '

She looks at me, and I repent.
'After all, she is very young, and pure,
And must be allowed to experiment, '
I say to the social-worker at the door.
