Why gap between 2 vaccine doses increased? Expert answers

There is a shortage of vaccines in the country currently. The National Technical Advisory Group has recommended that the difference between the first and the second dose of Covishield should be increased to 12 to 16 weeks. Right now the difference is only 4 to 8 weeks. Why this needed to be done, understand from a medical expert.
