Why did angels prostrate before Prophet Adam?

ADNAN OKTAR: Prostration is intended to show respect. Since ancient times, prostration has been a way of expressing respect. They do not prostrate with the intention of worshiping him. It is not a gesture that implies elevating a person to Godhood (God is above such thoughts). It is a display of humbleness, submission, respect and love towards God. Because in the Qur'an, when the brothers of the Prophet Joseph (pbuh) come before him, they prostrate. They prostrate before the Prophet Joseph (pbuh). What does this indicate? It is an indication of respect. In the past, sultans' visitors would always prostrate before them. They were referred to as 'servant'. The term did not signify attributing any divine quality to sultans; it simply meant 'those who serve and is a subject of the sultan', and the visitors would prostrate before them. This is a millennia-old tradition, a form of expressing one's respect. Like prostration, qiyam (standing during prayer) too is a form of prayer. People do stand before their superiors or before the judge in a courtroom. They stand and wait in a similar position to that of qiyam. Does this imply worship? It does not; it is simply a means of showing respect. Another example of this is when people greet their elders during religious festivals kissing their hands in ruku (bowing during prayer) position. What does ruku signify in that case? It signifies respect. Therefore, angels prostrating before the Prophet Adam (pbuh) is also a form of expressing respect and love. This is what their prostrating means. This is how it should be interpreted and recognized as it was meant in the Qur'an, as it was meant by God.
