I asked a languished friend,
“Why did you never marry? ”
His pupils seemed to transcend
As he thought on the contrary

“I didn’t wish to be settled
One woman, all my life’s days
Like the wind, I was unsettled
I was just born that way.

I didn’t want to give up me
Let my desires be vaguely haunted
Freedom, freedom, freedom..
Was all I ever wanted.”

I said, “You’re way different from me! ”
As if he’d given me a shove
“For all I’ve ever wanted,
Was only to be loved.”
