WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH THE STRANDED SAILOR?

The global recession has left thousands of merchant ships and their crews stranded in ports around the world with no pay, nothing to eat and no way to return home. We focus on a latvian cargo vessel with fifteen desperate men on board, stuck in Brest, France for months after the disappearance of their insolvent owner. The narrative is driven by the Captain’s blow-by-blow diary account — sometimes treated through animation — of their predicament and ultimate rescue by tenacious union leaders. The film makes a plea for urgent international solutions to put a stop to crew abandonment.
